- Some folks are vegetarian (or vegan) because the thought of eating an animal's flesh is absolutely repulsive to them. I'm not one of those folks.
- Some folks eat vegetarian meals because of animals' rights and the belief that we are not meant to eat meat. I'm not one of those folks.
- Some people eat vegetarian meals to try and cut some meat out of their diet for health reasons. That's me.
I often wonder about vegetarian foods when I see them in the store. When I buy a veggie burger, it's important to me that it taste and feel as much like meat as possible to me. For the folks who don't like the whole flesh-eating experience, I don't think that would be their goal at all. A very different texture would be extremely satisfying. You see, when I look for vegetarian recipes, I almost always end up going to a site that says something to the effect of "vegetarian recipes for meat lovers," or something like that.
I've tried BOCA Burgers. Not bad at all. Meaty bite. Bland flavor. I've tried the "Original" Garden Burger. Nice flavor... but the bite is kind of bready. My goal was to find a recipe that would satisfy me with both texture and flavor. My new recipe, Veggie Burgers, is my first attempt at a vegetarian burger. It uses ingredients that I've found fairly common in other recipes. I'm keeping the spices simple for now, until I can decide what I really want.
