When I first started this website, I did not have a dog. But now, I do. Louie is a medium white poodle, and probably one of the most wonderful, loving, and stubborn fur-friends I've ever had. This month, I'm departing from my usual human food recipes, and sharing with you my recipe for Peanut Butter Dog Cookies. Made with regular peanut butter, whole wheat flour, egg, and honey, these treats are a nutritious and healthy treat for your best buddy!

I've been looking to improve my veggie burger recipe, and I think I'm there! We had them tonight on sandwich-slim rolls, with tomatoes (from our neighbors' garden and cheese, ketchup, and some mustard. Not too salty, very meaty, and enjoyable!
Tonight I wanted to use up some leftover Romaine and tomatoes that I had, so I decided to use a chicken breast and make a nice Caesar dressing for it. A combination of a few other recipes, but it came out great! Have a look!
They're making me crazy! Too, wet, too crumbly! I think I may need a binder. We use egg substitute in the house. Makes them non-vegan. Not a problem for me... how about you? Maybe more flour?
Last night I got brave enough to try my hand at creating a veggie burger recipe. Now, each person who tries to eat vegetarian (even if only once in a while) has his own reason for doing it.
I often wonder about vegetarian foods when I see them in the store. When I buy a veggie burger, it's important to me that it taste and feel as much like meat as possible to me. For the folks who don't like the whole flesh-eating experience, I don't think that would be their goal at all. A very different texture would be extremely satisfying. You see, when I look for vegetarian recipes, I almost always end up going to a site that says something to the effect of "vegetarian recipes for meat lovers," or something like that. I've tried BOCA Burgers. Not bad at all. Meaty bite. Bland flavor. I've tried the "Original" Garden Burger. Nice flavor... but the bite is kind of bready. My goal was to find a recipe that would satisfy me with both texture and flavor. My new recipe, Veggie Burgers, is my first attempt at a vegetarian burger. It uses ingredients that I've found fairly common in other recipes. I'm keeping the spices simple for now, until I can decide what I really want. I finally got up the nerve to try my hand a Duchess Soup! This is something I used to enjoy years ago when it was served at the restaurant where I worked. Of course, the cook who made this delicious soup never shared her actual recipe. I was able to find some out on the Internet, but nothing seemed like it would be quite right... a GALLON of water for two teaspoons of flour? That's not going to be thick and creamy!
It turns out that using the combination of vegetables, chicken broth, milk, water, and cheese, along with what turns out to be a very thin bechamel sauce, is just the ticket. The onions, celery, and carrots infuse a wonderful flavor as the soup simmers for 20 to 40 minutes. Go ahead - try it out! Here's the link! It's been a while since I've posted here, but the site has undergone some really exciting changes. I have come to rely upon the site quite a bit, and often use my tablet to access my own recipes. I noticed, however, that some pages didn't display correctly on the mobile version. So, I've been working hard to revamp those pages and make them work correctly.
If you have a moment, make a comment in the forum, or post a recipe, or follow me. If you have Google+ you can even +1 me! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. At this time of year, Thanksgiving is many people's favorite holiday. It's all about family and food, and for at least that day, no worries about shopping for gifts (if that's your thing). The first time I did a turkey for Thanksgiving, I was in a week-long panic about how to do it. Of course that first year, there were just two of us, so it wasn't a huge deal. But still, I wanted it to be perfect. So off to the Internet I went in search of advice, training, and tips. It all paid off.
Now I want to share with you my thoughts on How to Cook a Turkey. Happy Holidays, B I've been working on adding recipes and ideas to the site when time allows. Now I'd like to invite you to help. Have a favorite recipe? Or something you'd like to see? Comment here, or post in the forum. All are welcome!
I'm not a fancy cook. But I cook most every day. Pretending to be something else, or some kind of expert would be unfair to all of us. It would be unfair to you because I'm asking you to put a certain level of confidence in my advice. I need to be truthful.
In these pages, I'm sharing my experience. Burns, cuts, failures - they all still happen. Would I love to have my own cooking show? Of course I would! But who would tune in to learn how to make Macaroni and Cheese or make waffles? Maybe you? Maybe someday. There's always YouTube! |
