Grilled Cheese
Sure, it's quick and easy to make, or it's a work of art. Whatever it is, grilled cheese is something enjoyed by many people. This recipe makes four sandwiches.
INGREDIENTS: 8 slices of bread Butter or margarine 4 - 8 slices of cheese DIRECTIONS: 1. Lightly spread each piece of bread on ONE side with margarine or butter. 2. Pre-heat a non-stick skillet or griddle. 3. When the griddle is getting hot, put 4 pieces of bread on it, buttered side down. 4. Put 1 or 2 slices of cheese on each piece of bread, depending on the bread's size. 5. Top each with another piece of bread, buttered side up. 6. When the bottoms are browning, slip the sandwiches to brown the other side. 7. Remove from griddle and serve. Sometimes I use nice heavy 12-grain bread for this, and one sandwich is enough with a bowl of soup for a lunch meal. With smaller sandwich-sized bread, one piece of cheese per sandwich is enough, but two sandwiches is more filling. |
